From North to South

Sorry for no posts. We moved from Liechtenstein to the apartment in the Ticino area of Switzerland. We packed up on Friday morning, said goodbye to the huge house in Vaduz, and drove south over the San Bernadino pass into the mild climate of the southern part of Switzerland. The actual pass is still closed, so we travelled through a very long tunnel through the Alps. After reaching the other side, it was completely necessary, in the name of education, for us to stop at a Swiss chocolate factory. We learned so much as we toured the factory sampling all the different kinds and styles of chocolate that are made there. Please know that we "fell on the sword" for the rest of you, being obligated to take the free samples, and will attempt to impart the information gleaned from this very enlightening side excursion.
We arrived in Ascona, had lunch on Lago Maggiore, and then continued on to Italy for a tour around the lake. Gitaine and Christianson were able to see almost immediate differences between the two countries. Because this part of Switzerland is so close to Ialy, Italian is mostly spoken here, but German and Swiss-German are spoken and understood also. Most Swiss understand and speak about 5 languages, German, Swiss-German, Italian, French, and English.
Entered back into Switzerland, and continued on to Lago Lugano. Had dinner in Melida and settled into the apartment in Marcote.
On Saturday, we went to Lugano and found out that a that a Whopper at Burger King costs between $11.00 and $13.00 here. Yes, that's dollars. And ketchup packets are 20 cents each. The prices are absolutely astronomical.
We walked up to an old church high above the lake and had some stunning views. Lunch in Lugano, and then toured a place call Swissminiatur. It is all of Switzerland in miniature. So Thomas was able to explain the different building styles, government houses, etc. Dinner in Melida, and it is now 3 a.m. here. We could not sleep, and need to pack anyway. Today we are leaving for Venice.
We will be travelling by train after lunch.

  1. Wow! What an exciting trip so far, and chocolate, too! Pray for settlement of BA union differences so we will have an uneventful trip home!
