Statues, Baths, and Bones--Oh My!!!

We left later then the last few days due to a thunderstorm early this morning. After the rain had died down, we made our way to the bakery in the Campo d'Fiore to get breakfast, then back to the apartment and after dropping off the extras, we caught a bus to the National Museum. Here we meandered around the galleries of marble statues, including The Sleeping Hermaphrodite and The Discus Thrower, some frescoes, and other ancient artifacts and statues like The Boxer and some ancient coins from throughout Rome's history. Afterward we went to the Baths of Diocletian which spanned a good 10 or so blocks when first built in ancient Rome but has been converted into at least three churches and two museums. We also walked by the Fountain of Moses and the Four Corner Fountains before we got to see the Bernini statue: the Ecstasy of Saint Theresa. Then we went to the Capuchin Monks Crypt and saw the bones of many Capuchin Monks arranged in many ornate designs in the different chapels. The Capuchin Monks did not allow us to take pictures of the grossly intriguing designs so we have no pictures of this experience. We can tell you that the designs were in mostly floral patterns and that all of the bones in the chapels are the bones of Capuchin Monks. This post written by Jeremiah and pictures provided by Lars
